Using a cross-over cable or switching with fixed IP addresses on a local network

Advantages

• Cross-over cable or switch cheaper than a router
• For almost all modern computers, a specific cross over cable should not be needed
• IP addresses can be used outside any ranges reserved by the customer
• IP addresses should not change, except by deliberate intervention

Disadvantages

• Aseve^®is accessed via a web browser over a network, a second network card may be needed just for the equipment
• Needs manual configuration at both the touch screen(s) andeve^®computer (more involved and takes time)
• A cross-over cable is only good for one connection, a switch is still needed for multiple touch screens
• Limited functionality
